Small Works and Miniatures Exhibition Opens Friday

One of my favorite things about exhibitions at the Center for the Arts is that the artists who enter constantly surprise me.

For instance this week the Small Works and Miniatures Exhibition will open with a reception at 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 17 in the Tranovich Gallery at the Center for the Arts.

The miniature paintings are astounding. I have personally always loved things in miniature, beginning with Victorian dollhouses when I was a child. So it is a pleasure to walk around the gallery and see what magnificent detail local artists can show in paintings no larger than a business card.

Local artist Charlie Tweed is always a crowd favorite. He is listed among the award winners in the show every year and often takes best in show. Tweed recently won Best of Show at the International Exhibition of Fine Art in Miniature in Washington D.C.  for his painting “Future Jack-O-Lanterns”. The exhibition is an annual event of the Miniature Painters, Sculptors & Gravers Society. It is the oldest miniatures organization in the world.

Some of the artists in the Small Works Exhibition I know because of their larger works. It is fun to see what they can do in smaller formats.

On Friday, Dec. 17 the Small Works and Miniatures Exhibition will open in the Tranovich Gallery in conjunction with the Southwest Florida Craft Guild exhibition in the Main Gallery at the Center for the Arts, 26100 Old. 41 Road.
