Terry Barber is in a class by himself. His natural vocal range places him in a rare class of singers known as “countertenors.” Countertenors have a range that is even higher than tenor, and they are quite rare. On Saturday, May 27, Terry Barber will grace the stage of the Hinman Auditorium at the Center for Performing Arts Bonita Springs, where he will perform, “Around the World in 80 Minutes.” This live performance will feature a selection of the most beloved songs from various locations all over the globe uniquely arranged by Emmy and Grammy-winning composers. With songs like Danny Boy, Besame Mucho, La Vie En Rose and Bridge Over Troubled Water, Terry will amaze the audience with the world’s favorite melodies spanning 10 different languages.
While Mr. Barber’s countertenor vocal range puts him in a class by himself, it should also be noted that he is one of the world’s most respected countertenors. He has made quite an impressive name for himself in the music industry. A graduate of Northwestern University, and London’s Trinity College of Music, Terry Barber is both a student of the historical significance of music, and is also well known for his grasp of languages. He is a voting member of the Grammy Awards, and serves on the advisory committee for Nelly’s “X’Treme Recording Institute.” Previously, he was a member of the Grammy-winning men’s chorus “Chanticleer” and was dubbed “the jewel in Chanticleer’s crown.”
In addition to providing backing vocals for Chaka Khan, Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, Steve Smith and many other popular artists, Terry is the founder of Artists for a Cause. Artists for a Cause is a very active non-profit based out of Palm City, Florida which focuses on using artists and performers to raise money and resources to address issues at the community level, such as hunger and mental illness. The organization benefits both “struggling artists” and the communities in which it is active.
